Jain University has become the first Indian university to receive Independent Assurance for Sustainability, in collaboration with SYNE, a leading international institution in the field of sustainable climate technology. This milestone sets a new direction for sustainability initiatives, which are becoming increasingly essential in India’s higher education sector. By aligning with global standards, Jain University has established itself as an institution that assures both sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) performance.
At the Future Summit 2026 organized by Jain University, SYNE Chief Executive Officer Ginu George and Director T.P. Sachidanandan presented the university’s Sustainability Certificate to Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. J. Latha, Director of New Initiatives Dr. Tom M. Joseph, and Finance & Strategy Director Dr. Radhakrishnan Unni.
Jain University is also the first private university in India to comprehensively measure carbon emissions across Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3, and the only university in Kerala to take such a decisive step. As the official sustainability partner, SYNE conducted independent assurance to ensure that Jain University’s ESG performance meets international standards, enhancing the university’s credibility on a global scale.
According to SYNE’s report, the university’s total carbon footprint for the last financial year was 2,759.41 metric tons of CO₂e, averaging 1.57 metric tons per student. The university has committed to reducing this by 10–20% annually, targeting net-zero emissions by 2033.
SYNE, headquartered in Sydney and Kochi, is a global organization specializing in sustainability, climate, and technology. Its services cover the full sustainability value chain across 33 countries, including carbon accounting, climate risk assessment, ESG ratings, green finance, and carbon markets. Using advanced data analytics, climate modeling, and space technologies, SYNE provides high-accuracy insights to support adherence to sustainability standards, manage climate risks, and develop a clear path toward net-zero emissions.
The Jain-SYNE collaboration sends a strong message that sustainability is an imperative for future progress. As climate challenges intensify, timely innovation, enhanced resilience, and long-term value creation are essential. This initiative marks a significant step in preparing for a sustainable future and provides new leadership direction in sustainability, recognized globally.
